The Chicago White Sox made four roster moves involving pitchers before Saturday's game against the Houston Astros. New roster additions include Enyel De Los Santos, whom the Sox claimed off waivers from the New York Yankees, and Gus Varland, who was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte. The White Sox placed Steven Wilson on the 15-day injured list and transferred Mike Clevinger to the 60-day IL to make room on the roster.

    On the Move

Enyel De Los Santos comes to the South Side after being designated for assignment by the Yankees earlier this week. The 28-year-old owns a 4.52 ERA across 231 innings for his career but has struggled to a 5.79 ERA in 46.2 innings split between the San Diego Padres and Yankees this season. His most recent outing came against the White Sox, who roughed him up for seven runs on Monday .

Gus Varland will get his first chance in a White Sox uniform after being claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers on Aug. 2. The 27-year-old has a 5.81 ERA in 26.1 big-league innings for his career and a 3.00 mark in six innings this season. After joining the White Sox organization, Varland pitched to a 3.86 ERA in 4.2 innings for Triple-A Charlotte.

Steven Wilson hits the IL for the second time this season with a back injury. The right-hander has endured a tough first season ( 5.71 ERA ) with the White Sox after being acquired in the Dylan Cease trade this past offseason.

Mike Clevinger will miss the rest of the season after undergoing disc replacement surgery on Aug. 1. His placement on the 60-day IL is a transactional move to clear roster space for the newly acquired arms.
