Biggest Surprise from Hard Knocks, Episode 3

My biggest surprise of the episode was seeing footage of Ryan Poles talking through the potential trade for Matthew Judon with team president Kevin Warren and how torn up Poles seemed about not getting the deal done. With how sparse the Bears have been in providing a behind-the-scenes look into team operations, it was refreshing to get more insight into the team's inner workings and to see the Bears' general manager express his fear of missing out on Judon. That more human aspect isn't always prevalent but is a key part of Poles' job.

The biggest surprise for Sunny coincided with mine. He talked about seeing Poels negotiating the potential trade for Judon. Throughout the process, Poles kept the rest of the staff informed as to what was going on with timing and progress. That gave fans more context to the business aspect of an NFL front office and everything that goes into their decisions.

Favorite Moment from 'Hard Knocks' Episode 3

My favorite part of the episode came during the Bears' second preseason game. After dealing with headset issues, the Bears offense got back on track and started rolling. Caleb Williams hit Rome Odunze downfield for a big gain before finding him in the back of the end zone on an acrobatic attempt. But Odunze was out of bounds, and Williams was the last player on the field to realize it.

Facing third and long, Williams showed off his pocket magic to buy time, evade pressure, and eventually find a rushing lane into the end zone. The camera work on this play was artful, capturing how impactful Williams' pocket presence is to the offense.

Sunny's favorite moment of the episode was right after that touchdown run. Williams was mic'd up and was caught saying that he just wanted to hold onto that football. Williams has acted like such an adult and professional since arriving in Chicago. At that moment, the audience saw a kid playing football. He wanted to soak it in and remember that feeling.

What to Expect in 'Hard Knocks' Episode 4

Sunny expects to see more focus on the position battles yet to be settled. Specifically, more from players on the bubble and fighting for one of the final roster spots. Along the same lines, I think we'll see more from Ryan Poles regarding how an NFL roster is constructed. The Bears have some unique considerations that offer flexibility as they enter the cut-down day.

With Velus Jones Jr. being a running back who can play wide receiver and Gerald Everett being a tight end who can play wide receiver, I'm interested to see how many receivers the Bears choose to keep. Additionally, with Kiran Amegadjie activated off the non-football injury list, I expect to see a more detailed segment about the Hinsdale Central alum.
