The Chicago Bears are at it again, making trades to improve their roster. Fans have become accustomed to General Manager Ryan Poles dealing late-round picks in order to take fliers on players from other teams. In this instance, Poles pulled the trigger and struck a deal with the Seattle Seahawks.

Per Tom Pelissero, the Bears are sending a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Seahawks for DE Darrell Taylor. Taylor, a second-round draft pick in 2020, comes to the Bears with 21.5 sacks in three NFL seasons.

Taylor did not play in 2020 due to a non-football injury. In 2021, Taylor posted 6.5 sacks, 13 QB hits, and 37 total tackles in 16 games including five starts. He followed that up with 9.5 sacks in 2022 and 6.5 sacks in 2023. Taylor might not be a Matthew Judon-like player, but he is certainly a warranted contributor.

Taylor is a big man, standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 267 pounds. The Seahawks actually traded up for the big defensive end/linebacker in 2020, trading a third-round pick in addition to the pick swap. Taylor posted impressive stats at Tennessee, finishing his senior season with 8.5 sacks and 10.0 tackles for loss.

Although reports suggested the Bears were in on Matthew Judon and could've targeted a disgruntled Haason Reddick, Taylor fits the bill for what Chicago needs. Another defensive end to mix in with DeMarcus Walker, Austin Booker, and Montez Sweat should round out the group nicely.

With the trade, the Bears now have seven picks remaining in the 2025 NFL Draft. They had three sixth-round picks before the trade, so moving one for a shot on a solid player is a nice move by Poles.
