Ryan Poles has a type when it comes to making trades. One day removed from the Chicago Bears acquiring DE Darrell Taylor from the Seattle Seahawks, general manager Ryan Poles has executed another trade in similar fashion. After moving a sixth-round pick for Taylor, Poles has moved another sixth-round pick for defensive depth.

Per ESPN's Courtney Cronin and other sources, the Bears have acquired DT Chris Williams from the Cleveland Browns, along with a 2025 seventh-round pick, for a sixth-round pick in 2025.

Williams has not seen regular-season game action since the 2022 season, spending his first two years in the league with the Indianapolis Colts. He and current Bears' head coach Matt Eberflus crossed paths in Indy during the 2021 season while Eberflus was the defensive coordinator. The DT played eight games in 2021, racking up minimal stats .

At the end of the day, this is purely a depth move for a guy the Bears like. His familiarity with Eberflus' defense is perfect for the interior defensive line, especially with young defensive tackles Gervon Dexter Sr., Zacch Pickens, and veteran one-tech Andrew Billings already in the fold.

The move also doesn't handicap the Bears from a draft perspective. Although they're moving a sixth for a seventh, the change is maybe 30 or fewer picks for a flier on Williams. The Bears will still have seven picks in 2025 with one of their two remaining sixth-rounders now being replaced by the seventh-round pick.

Poles has no problem with moving late-round picks. He's done it every single season as Bears' GM. In this instance, it allows them to bring in a player who is familiar with the scheme and can boost their depth at a thin position on the roster.
