The Chicago White Sox reached one-year anniversaries this week, neither of which is worth celebrating. On August 22nd last year, Jerry Reinsdorf fired his long-time decision makers, Kenny Williams and Rick Hahn. The team finished with the worst record in franchise history in half a century.

A much worse incident occurred within the stadium just three days later, but it remains unanswered. During a game between the Oakland Athletics and White Sox, two people were shot in the left field seats at Guaranteed Rate Stadium when a gun went off. The White Sox did not stop the game, nor did security recover a weapon. There has been much speculation since the incident, but nothing resembling an answer has materialized.

On Thursday, the law offices of John J. Malm and Associates issued a press release on their website stating that they have filed a lawsuit with the Cook County Circuit Court on the shooting victim's behalf. The lawsuit names" Jane Doe," who will be suing the Chicago White Sox, LTD, At Your Service, LLC, and the Illinois Sports Facility Authority.

The White Sox have not yet stated anything regarding the suit, nor have the other parties. The lawsuit asserts that the bullets may have come from inside the stadium. This differs from what the Chicago Police and the team stated last year, as both entities reported that the shots originated from outside of the ballpark.

In a press conference last season, Jerry Reinsdorf addressed the shooting situation before introducing Chris Getz as his new general. Reinsdorf reiterated that Chicago police allowed him to state that the possibility of the bullets coming from outside the stadium had not been ruled out at that time.

Since then, little information about the incident has been made publicly available.

Nevertheless, this is another black eye for the organization, which has taken many over the last few years. The franchise has deteriorated quickly since winning the AL Central Division title in 2021. In the offseason, beloved play-by-play man Jason Benetti left to join the Detroit Tigers booth, leading to much speculation about the impetus for his exit. They are currently on pace to set the MLB record for most losses in a single season.

We will monitor the story and provide updates as the lawsuit progresses through the legal system.
