White Sox DFA Touki Toussaint, Bring Back Matt Foster to Bolster Struggling Bullpen

The Chicago White Sox announced today that they designated reliever Touki Toussaint for assignment. Toussaint has been with the organization since Chicago claimed him off waivers from Cleveland in June of 2023. The White Sox designated him for assignment after Spring Training and outrighted him to the Charlotte Knights after he cleared waivers.

He returned to the big-league club on July 29 after the White Sox purchased his contract from the Knights. Toussaint struggled through 11 games for the South Siders, tossing 23 innings, mostly in long relief, and compiled a 7.43 ERA .

Back Again

In an accompanying move, reliever Matt Foster returns to the Pale Hose to replace Toussaint. After two months with the Charlotte Knights , Foster returned from Tommy John rehabilitation in August. The 29-year-old made two appearances , one of which was the opener in the nightcap of a doubleheader against the Texas Rangers as the 27th man.

He's allowed two hits, a walk, no runs, and fanned two in three innings since returning from injury.

The White Sox bullpen has struggled all season, and those struggles were on full display in yesterday's loss against the Baltimore Orioles. The relief crew covered 4.2 innings due to an abbreviated start from Chris Flexen. Toussaint and Chad Kuhl allowed eight earned runs in three innings in the contest.

Toussaint had modest success as a starting pitcher for Chicago in 2023, which he couldn't recapture this year. He will likely clear waivers and could end up in Charlotte again. Grady Sizemore needs a fresh arm out of the bullpen due to the starting staff's inability to provide length due to ineffectiveness and Garrett Crochet's innings restrictions.

Matt Foster supplies the White Sox with a fresh arm needed to complete the remainder of this dreadful season.
