For almost 15 months we have been waiting for a deal to reunify golf between the PGA Tour and the PIF. Jay Monahan, the commissioner of the PGA Tour, has been steadfast in not being present since that time. And offering little insight into any discussions or progress that has been made on top of that.

But all of this may seem to be coming to an end. It was reported early Tuesday that the two sides are in New York and will be meeting over the next several days, hopefully to inch closer to the finish line on hammering out a deal to unite the two fronts once and for all.

    The Date Is Not Ideal...

9/11 feels like a choice. And justifiably not a great one to have these meetings. Monahan has been critical in the past about PIF and possible involvement in the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the past. And overnight seemed to flip a switch on his stance to suddenly agreeing to a framework deal last June with PIF to at some point merge.

Of all the days that could be chosen, this had to be it? Once again it seems like salt in the wound and a total lack of judgment by the Tour. I have had my thoughts on leadership in the past but am hopeful to get a deal done for the betterment of the game. But this seemed blatantly irresponsible.

Jay Monahan was so outspoken at one point about the tragedies that occurred on 9/11 and the families of the victims when it came to PIF. Now we are going to hold a meeting with them...in New York...ON 9/11?! I've long said that Monahan is not the right man to lead the tour in this new venture and era. Tuesday's announcement just proves how truly out of touch he is.

This was a choice, not only is it egregious but it is blatantly incompetent, much like Monahan himself. I am all for the Tour and PIF getting a deal done and creating something great for golf sickos like me to enjoy again. But this is a whole new low for the Tour and not thought out at all. I've said it many times and will continue to say it. Monahan needs to go.
