The Chicago White Sox made two roster moves involving pitchers before Friday's game against the Oakland Athletics. Chicago placed Matt Foster on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to Sept. 12) and recalled Jake Eder from Triple-A Charlotte.

Foster is no stranger to injuries as he missed all of 2023 and the beginning of this season due to Tommy John surgery and recovery. Since returning to the Sox, he owns a 2.70 ERA in 6.2 innings. The righty has also logged a 2.40 ERA in 15 innings for Charlotte this season. Now dealing with a lower back disc herniation this close to the end of the regular season, Foster may have already thrown his last pitch of 2024.

Eder joins the White Sox looking to make his MLB debut. The left-hander previously joined the South Siders as their 27th player for a July 10 doubleheader but didn't see the mound.

Acquired in the trade that sent Jake Burger to the Miami Marlins at last year's deadline, Eder touts a 6.61 ERA in 109 innings split between Double-A and Triple-A this season. The soon-to-be 26-year-old is the No. 22 prospect in the White Sox' system, per MLB Pipeline.

The White Sox return to action Friday when they host the Athletics to open a three-game weekend series. First pitch is at 6:40 PM CT and the game will air on NBC Sports Chicago.
