Although the Chicago Cubs have nothing to play for down the stretch, the organization decided to give one of its top prospects an opportunity before the season comes to a close. Per the Cubs, outfielder Kevin Alcantara, the team’s No. 6 prospect, has been called up and will make his MLB debut Wednesday against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Alcantara split the 2024 season with Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa. In 76 games with Tennessee, Alcantara slashed .271/.342/.409 with nine home runs and 39 RBIs. He had better numbers in a small sample size at Iowa, slashing .292/.378/.469 with five homers and 22 RBIs through 35 games.

The Cubs acquired Alcantara in a 2021 trade that sent Anthony Rizzo to the New York Yankees. Now, the 22-year-old will make his first start with the Cubs in Philadelphia on Wednesday.
