Rawlings Baseball announced Tuesday the Gold Glove Award finalists for the 2024 MLB season. Nicky Lopez of the Chicago White Sox was named a finalist among American League second basemen. Andres Gimenez of the Cleveland Guardians and Marcus Semien of the Texas Rangers are the other finalists.

Lopez came to the White Sox last offseason in a trade that sent enigmatic reliever Aaron Bummer to the Atlanta Braves. The South Side faithful was familiar with Lopez's game as he previously spent parts of five seasons with the division rival Kansas City Royals, and the local product performed about as expected in Chicago.

Historically a light hitter, Lopez slashed .241/.312/.294 with just one home run, 12 doubles, and 21 RBIs but provided solid defense splitting time between second base and shortstop for the White Sox. In 640.1 innings across 83 games at the keystone position, Lopez logged a .989 fielding percentage , -1 defensive runs saved, and four outs above average for a fielding run value of three.

If Lopez earns the honors, it'll mark the fifth such occurrence in Sox history. Yolmer Sanchez (2019) was the last White Sox second baseman to win the Gold Glove Award, preceded by Nellie Fox (1957, 1959, 1960).

MLB will announce the 2024 Gold Glove Award winners on Sunday, Nov. 3 during a special edition of ESPN's "Baseball Tonight" beginning at 7:30 p.m. CT.
