Cole Kmet's Long Snapping Career Comes to an End

The Cole Kmet long-snapping saga is (unfortunately) coming to a close.

On Tuesday, the Chicago Bears signed 2-time Pro Bowl long snapper Jake McQuaide to their practice squad.

McQuaide, currently in his 13th season in the NFL, spent last season with the Detroit Lions. He will be filling in for Scott Daly, who suffered a knee injury during the Bears Week 6 matchup against the Jaguars.

Daly is listed as week-to-week. If he is out for Week 8, McQuaide will step in.

McQuaide is the 3rd long snapper that the Bears have rostered this season. Daly was signed at the beginning of the season after long-time Bear Patrick Scales was placed on IR earlier with a back injury.

The MAIN takeaway from this signing is that Cole Kmet, fresh off winning NFC Special Teams Player of the Week, will likely ride the pine pony in favor of McQuaide (at least at long snapper).

It is probably for the best that the Bears signed McQuaide. As fun as it is having Kmet as a long-snapper, it would be devastating (and very dumb) for him to get injured from playing the position.

As they say, when one door closes, another one opens.

What does that mean for Cole Kmet?

    Time will tell.
