Park Ridge (Ill.) Maine South 2027 quarterback Jameson Purcell’s recruitment is still getting off the ground, but Miami ensured itself a place at the table for the fast-rising gunslinger.

Purcell, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound high school freshman not yet ranked by any of the four major recruiting databases, has already landed offers from programs including Auburn, Ole Miss, Louisville and Kentuck y and has already visited schools like Texas, Texas A&M, TCU and LSU . Purcell has also landed offers from Vanderbilt and Indiana since coaches began visiting recruits’ schools last month, although Miami head coach Mario Cristobal offered him on a phone call last week.

“Miami requested game film and highlight tapes from me a couple weeks back and then, through my coach, I actually spoke with coach Cristobal on the phone and he offered me,” Purcell said. “I was so jacked up. I was just so excited to have received an offer from such a historic and excellent program. I was also humbled by coach Cristobal having faith in me, especially being so young in the process, and having him see my potential and hard work pay off.”

Purcell toured Miami’s campus Jan. 27 during the Hurricanes’ junior day and was generally impressed by the school, although he’s yet to take a more formal unofficial visit. But he said he’s still “really pumped for Miami.”

“It’s definitely on my list of favorite schools, but I also know that I have to work hard these next three years and focus on finding the right fit for me as a student athlete,” Purcell said. “Academics are important to me and I want to be at a school that has a good culture, one where they develop QBs and one where I can earn a top degree and get playing time.”

Purcell said he’s familiar with Miami’s history and success from the 1980s through early 2000s and said the Hurricanes’ facilities were some of the best he’s seen. He added attending college in South Florida and spending time in a warm climate could be attractive to a Chicago native, although he’s nowhere near ready to make a decision.

“I want to feel like I am with family in a program versus feeling like football is just a job,” Purcell said. “I really ask a lot of questions to the recruiting staff and also try to gauge the culture and if I can be successful at the school.”

    CaneSport’s Take

Any 2027 recruit Miami offers this early is someone the staff has particularly high grades on, and I expect Purcell to end up as a blue-chip recruit once the various recruiting databases release their 2027 rankings.
