This past Wednesday the Miami Hurricanes hosted Idaho State senior transfer forward Kiree Huie for an official visit, and it’s safe to say the Canes made a strong impression on the 6-foot-9, 220-pound junior.

Over the last two weeks, Miami head coach Jim Larrañaga has been heavily involved with the recruitment of Huie, and that continued upon his arrival in Coral Gables.

“I really like how the head coach is doing a lot of the talking,” Huie told CaneSport. “I also like how it was a lot different from my UTSA visit (taken previously). I just related with Miami’s coach’s much more.”

While Huie has received interest from several programs, he only has taken OVs to Miami and UTSA.

This past season the junior forward averaged 11.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game for the Bengals, who finished the year with a 14-20 record. Huie started 32 of 34 games for Idaho State last season.

Prior to his time in Pocatello, Idaho, Huie played in the junior college ranks for the Odessa College Wranglers and appeared in all 34 games, starting in 25 of them. He finished that year averaging 10.6 points on 60.8% shooting from the field, with 5.9 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks in 20.6 minutes per game as the Wranglers finished the season with a 30-4 overall record and 15-1 conference record.

“I’m a great blocker, rebounder, and hard worker,” Huie explained. “My inside game is really good, and I’m just an all-around dog.”

Huie could help Miami fill the front court hole left after the team lost star forward Norchad Omier (17 PPG, 10 RPG), who transferred to Baylor this offseason.

“They told me that they wanted me to play at the four and the five,” Huie said. “They also want me to space out my game a little bit and shoot threes. And also be dominant in the post and on the glass.”

Thus far this offseason, Larrañaga and his staff have added much-needed size in transfer portal signees forward Brandon Johnson, who last played at East Carolina and averaged 14 points and 8.6 rebounds per game this past season, and former Virginia Tech center Lynn Kidd, who averaged 13.2 points and 6.5 rebounds to the Hurricanes roster.

Following his official visit to Miami, Huie will weigh out his options and announce a commitment in the coming days.
