Auburn is more than likely done in the transfer portal and gearing up to enter the fall with the roster being full despite anything unforeseen. Auburn Live is ranking the position units on the team from least to greatest. Quarterback comes in at No. 8 and we will state our case. Also, we have added overall ratings predictions for the new EA Sports College Football game.

**To avoid confusion, this is the opinion of Auburn Live analyst Cole Pinkston. This ranking is based on the position units as a whole, not just at the starters and key rotational pieces. It is also based solely on the 2024 season outlook and not a future outlook of the position unit.

    Potential starter

Payton Thorne – Thorne is the incumbent starter and the clear leader of the pack after spring. He has played plenty of football and coaches are anxious to see his improvement in year two with Auburn.

    First off the bench

Hank Brown – Brown more than likely won the second team job in spring practice. He has made the most of a couple of opportunities (bowl game, A-Day). Brown is a serviceable backup it seems, but still very much unproven.

    Reserves

Holden Geriner – Geriner is entering year three without having played any significant snaps. Unlike Brown, he has not looked as smooth in his opportunities. Geriner is the only quarterback on roster not brought in by the current staff.

Walker White – White is the young buck, but probably has the most potential in the room. He had flashes of excellence in spring and at A-Day, but is not ready to take the reigns just yet. Still, there is a lot of promise here.

    EA Football 25 rankings

**Our prediction on what the top three in this room will be ranked on the new EA Sports College Football game..

    — Payton Thorne – 79 overall

    — Walker White – 75 overall

    — Hank Brown – 72 overall

    Reason for ranking

Auburn has a proven quarterback returning in Payton Thorne. So far, at Auburn, the fit hasn’t been perfect, but coaches think he is primed for a better year. Thorne has thrown for 8,256 yards and 65 touchdowns. He has also thrown 34 interceptions in his career. So, he is proven, but there is improvement to be made as well.

To round out the room while putting it up against the others on the team, this position is very much unproven. Hank Brown got his moment of glory in the bowl game, but that’s all we have seen of him. Before that, he was a late 3-star addition that didn’t create too much buzz. Bottom line, he has a lot to prove still.

Holden Geriner is entering his third year with the program and has yet to break into the two deep. Then, Walker White helps the talent level of the room. A blue-chip quarterback, White is just getting his feet wet after going through spring, but has a lot of arm talent to work with.

The room as a whole has not done enough to be considered better than many position groups on the team. Still, it is more proven at the top than the two defensive back rooms which fall behind.
