The July quiet period ended up being a very productive stretch for Penn State’s Class of 2026. Now up to six commitments total, head coach James Franklin and his staff added four prospects in just a week, including potential five-star offensive lineman Kevin Brown and four-star edge rusher Daniel Jennings .

But they also added two speedsters at the wide receiver position, as Delaware native Jahsiear Rogers and Maryland’s Lavar Keys both ended their recruitments earlier than many expected. With each of them running the 40 in the 4.3-second range, the Nittany Lions have no shortage of speed already in the class.

However, they’ll also continue to target plenty of wide receivers over the next year, including Indiana native Jerquaden Guilford . Listed at 6-foot-2, 170 pounds, Guilford doesn’t have the outright speed that Rogers and Keys bring, but he showed at Penn State’s Whiteout Camp II on July 27 that he’s already a very strong route runner. That’s what led the Nittany Lions to extend an offer to the Fort Wayne native before he left campus.

“This offer means a lot to me,” Guilford said. “They showed me lots of different things and explained why I should be a Nittany Lion and why that would be the best decision for me. I was and still am very excited to have this offer.”

Guilford’s trip to State College was his first so far. He had only had limited contact with the staff leading up to the visit but said he was impressed with not just the coaching staff but everyone he met in Penn State’s football program.

“I thought the people there were very down to the earth,” Guilford said. “They are accepting and love to compete at a very high level. Coach Franklin seems like a great head coach.”

When asked about his time with Franklin specifically, Guilford added, “He loves how competitive I am and my ability to get out of my breaks and also run routes. He’s also a great person and not just a great coach. He’s hands-on with his guys, and he’s one of the best.”

In addition to Penn State, Guilford also picked up an offer from Ohio State earlier this summer when he traveled to Columbus for a camp. Miami and Tennessee are among the other notable programs to offer so far, while both Ole Miss and Notre Dame hosted him for visits in June.

Last season, Guilford led Northrop in receiving, totaling 26 receptions for 374 yards and four touchdowns. He currently holds a three-star rating in On3’s Industry Rankings , coming in at No. 539 nationally and No. 3 overall in Indiana.

If all goes to plan, Guilford should be back in State College for a game later this season.

“I’m definitely going to be at that White Out game,” Guilford said.
