It’s been a relatively quiet month of August thus far for Ohio State on the trail, as the Buckeyes and every other program across the country is more focused on training camp versus recruiting.

Things are about to get a little busy with the latter, though, as Ohio State will learn their fate with three of their remaining class of 2025 targets. Safety Messiah Delhomme announces his decision on Saturday August 10 . Offensive tackle Josh Petty announces his final destination on Monday August 12 . And fellow offensive tackle David Sanders will make the call on Saturday August 17.

We’ve shared the latest with Sanders almost ad nauseum, but there hasn’t been a ton of updates regarding the other two of late. Today that changes, and Lettermen Row provides the latest intel on both Delhomme and Petty ahead of decision days.

    Josh Petty

Ohio State was somewhat late to the party on Petty, not getting their first visit until the middle of May, and only having two visits total, with the official visit that took place in June.

That said those two visits were very strong visits, and have legitimately made the Buckeyes a possible destination in this thing. Petty has a top five that includes OSU, Florida State, Stanford, Tennessee, and Georgia Tech, and I would put the Scarlet and Gray in the top three of that group.

The other two I would have in my top three are Florida State and Georgia Tech. Petty’s sister is at FSU, and that is something to pay attention to. He’s long been interested in the Seminoles, made a ton of visits to Tallahassee, and has great relationships with the staff there. As for the Yellowjackets, they are the hometown school for the Roswell (GA) Fellowship Christian School product and check a bunch of boxes. The education at GT is outstanding, the school is obviously close to home, the chance for early playing time may be better than anywhere else, and the relationship with the staff is also top notch.

I know there has been some buzz around Ohio State of late, including from On3’s Steve Wiltfong , who is top of the game in this business. I do know that the confidence in the WHAC has certainly risen since the first time Petty stepped foot on campus, and that communication has been strong between the two parties. All that said, though, I’m just not personally buying Columbus as the final destination here. I may actually take Georgia Tech if I have to make a pick, but am personally expecting Atlanta or Tallahassee to be the destination come announcement time.

We will see how things develop with intel as we inch closer to decision day, but if I had to put a percentage on things, I would go Georgia Tech 45%, Florida State 40%, and Ohio State 15%. Petty is ranked as a 5-star and the No. 29 overall player per the On3 Industry Rankings .

    Messiah Delhomme

The Newport News (VA) Warwick star is one I’ve flip flopped back and forth on throughout the process as being in this class or not. I’ve always felt that as long as Ohio State was making the push here that they would have a great shot in this one, and I think as things have developed throughout the cycle, the feeling on the OSU side of things has changed somewhat constantly, which has impacted my opinion on whether this will or won’t happen.

What isn’t in doubt is that Delhomme is a good player and nice fit in the Buckeyes’ defensive scheme. Ohio State wouldn’t have been pursuing him for a year’s time (and then some) if that wasn’t the case. They would not have brought him in for multiple unofficial visits and an official visit if that wasn’t the case.

That said, while I thought this one was looking likely to happen after the official, with Delhomme even telling me that Ohio State topped his list at the time , in talking to some people leading up to the decision day, I’m not so sure that it is going to come to fruition. There’s a number of things at play with the current class, roster for the coming years, and latest rules in college football (see: portal), where I am not sure that Delhomme is definitely a take in the class anymore.

What I do know is that nothing is “definite” just yet. Things are a bit fluid heading into Saturday and a lot can change between now and then. But if forced to make a decision today (Thursday August 8), I would go with the field over Ohio State, and likely Virginia Tech (other finalists are Virginia and Maryland).

Delhomme is ranked as a 4-star and the No. 188 overall player per the On3 Industry Rankings .
