Miami head coach Mario Cristobal was plenty familiar with former Hurricane offensive lineman Ty Wise after hiring him as a graduate assistant during his time as FIU’s head coach. And now Cristobal’s attention has turned from the former NFL offensive lineman who played at Miami to his son, Grant.

Miami’s staff is focusing heavily on 2026 four-star center Grant Wise , the No. 150 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking and No. 10 interior offensive lineman in next year’s class. Grant has received offers from more than two dozen programs including Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State and Florida’s three major in-state schools. Grant is one of Miami’s top center targets in next year’s class along with local Miami (Fla.) Southridge center Ryan Miret and has been in constant communication with the Hurricanes’ staff. Also note that Grant will play right tackle this fall.

Grant said his father, who played at Miami from 1996 to 1999, has had plenty of positive things to say about Cristobal.

“Whenever he was hired (at Miami), my dad said said, ‘Whenever coach Cristobal gets hired, the O-line is going to significantly improve,'” Grant said. “And I think that definitely happened watching them before and after (Cristobal’s hiring). The O-line was much more physical. They were moving people, they were running the ball. I think that was big when he got there, rebuilding the O-line room, and I think it definitely happened.”

Grant said offensive line play as a unit will have a significant role when he eventually narrows down his list, which he thinks will most likely be after his junior season. Grant is planning on announcing a list of either his top 10 or top 12 schools and expects Miami to be one of his top schools.

“When I do (narrow the list), they’re definitely going to be on it,” Grant said. “This summer I went to Alabama, Tennessee, Michigan, Ohio State and Clemson. I camped at all of those schools this summer. I feel that most of them are definitely in the picture.”

So what’s Miami’s message that the Hurricanes hope will help separate them from the competition?

“Their message to me is to continue the legacy,” Grant said. “Continue building the legacy of Miami football players in my family.”

    CaneSport’s Take

Grant is a obvious candidate for Miami’s 2026 class with his natural interest in the Hurricanes, his father’s respect for Cristobal as an offensive line coach and developer and ties to the program. We’re expecting Miami to continue its push this fall.
