Tim Lester has Iowa’s offense in motion

There are stats for everything. One that jumped out at Tim Lester when he looked at the Iowa offense was they only used motion before the snap around 6% of the time last year. His goal since taking over as Iowa’s offensive coordinator is to use motion as much as possible. So much so that Iowa defensive coordinator Phil Parker wondered why they didn’t for a few plays in practice.

Lester spoke at media day about the use of motion before the snap and how they can use it in the run game and beyond. He talks about the use of a script of plays to start the game and then how deep you go with that script. He wonders why you don’t stay with a script if it’s working and how you can use it to set up plays for later in the game.
