    Tweets Of The Day

Back in the winter, Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore planned to host former head man Jim Harbaugh as the team’s honorary captain for the Aug. 31 opener against Fresno State. However, Harbaugh has since declined, calling Moore this week to tell him the news. His parents, Jack Harbaugh and Jackie Harbaugh , will take his place as captains.

“Really, what went into the decision …. we made that decision in I think it was January or February, and it was really to honor him for what he’s done for Michigan,” Moore said. “He came back for nine years and and took us to where we are now.

“Yesterday he called me told me that he didn’t feel he could leave his team. In true Coach Harbaugh fashion, he wanted to be in the foxhole with his team and not want to make it look like he was taking a deep, long bow.”

Harbaugh, of course, is now the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers. His team opens the season eight days after Michigan vs. Fresno State — Sept. 8 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Former Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who impressed in his preseason debut Saturday, will undergo knee surgery on a torn meniscus after undergoing an MRI. The surgery will determine how much time he misses.

McCarthy was the second quarterback in the game in a 24-23 win over the Las Vegas Raiders over the weekend. He was 11-of-17 passing for 188 yards and 2 touchdowns with 1 interception. He also had 2 carries for 18 yards.

Michigan begins No. 8 in the coaches poll and No. 9 in the AP poll.

The Michigan men’s soccer team will play an exhibition game Aug. 16 against DePaul, before opening the regular season Aug. 22 against Loyola-Chicago.

    Quote Of The Day

“Camp is going phenomenal. We’re in a really, really good place, getting callouses, as we like to say around here, and having a physical, physical camp. But also having fun, too. Competition is at an all-time high. Guys are not satisfied with [where they are], and we’re going to continue to do that.”
