Report: Reckless driving charges dismissed against Georgia WR Sacovie White

The reckless driving charges against Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Sacovie White have been dismissed, according to court records.

Athens-Clarke County Solicitor General Will Fleenor filed a motion to dismiss on August 6th and Judge Charles Auslander III approved the motion the next day.

“After a careful review of the evidence, including footage from downtown cameras, it is clear the State will not be able to prove Reckless Driving beyond a reasonable doubt,” Fleenor wrote. There was also a second citation that Fleenor dismissed “in the interest of justice.”

Sacovie White was initially arrested in May on charges of reckless driving. They were misdemeanor charges.

According to his initial arrest report, Sacovie White was booked into the jail at 3:04 a.m. and posted a $26 cash bond 16 minutes later. He was then released exactly one hour later at 4:04 a.m. This came after an Athens-Clarke County police officer pulled him over slightly after 2:00 a.m. for allegedly traveling at a “high-rate of speed” the wrong way down Clayton Street while a passenger was hanging out of one of the windows.

A native of Cartersville, Georgia, Sacovie White came to Georgia as a three-star recruit in the Class of 2024 , according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He was the 69th-ranked wide receiver and the 432nd-ranked player in that class.

Sacovie White helped to make a name for himself during the spring and ahead of his reckless driving arrest by having a strong showing in the Spring game. That included scoring a 26-yard touchdown during the annual Red and Black Spring game. The hope has been that he can build on that type of strong performance on the field.

It’s unclear if and how Sacovie White was punished within the Georgia program. However, head coach Kirby Smart has recently shared that the program’s NIL collective is capable of fining players involved in traffic incidents.

“Our Classic City Collective for over a year has been substantially fining guys for those things,” Smart said . “That’s not something that’s new. That’s something that’s been ongoing outside of my jurisdiction that they decided to implement and have done for a considerable amount.”

Driving-related issues have become an ongoing story for the Georgia Bulldogs in recent years. That has included the deaths of Devin Willock and Chandler LeCroy in January of 2024 as well as the 26 arrests for speeding, reckless driving, or driving under the influence since that tragedy.
