Top-100 Miami Hurricanes commit SJ Alofaituli will be ready to contribute ‘as soon as he lands there’

Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman offensive line coach Kea Toledo remembers watching Miami offensive tackle and former Five-Star Plus+ recruit Francis Mauigoa at IMG Academy.

So when he thinks about the possibility of Mauigoa lining up alongside 2025 Miami commit and Bishop Gorman star interior lineman SJ Alofaituli, he believes the Hurricanes could have one of the country’s top offensive line duos — and sooner rather than later.

Toledo, Alofaituli’s offensive line coach at Bishop Gorman, believes Miami is getting a massive impact player in Alofaituli who “will be ready day one to step in” after he arrives on campus, he said. Toledo thinks the No. 78 overall prospect and No. 5 offensive lineman in the On3 Industry Ranking should fit seamlessly into Miami’s offensive line-driven culture and believes the intensity he’ll bring to Coral Gables should complement offensive line coach Alex Mirabal’s coaching style, although he acknowledged he’ll still have to earn his spot at Miami.

“Is he going to have a spot or earn a spot?” Toledo said. “He has to go in there and earn it. Is he ready? He is ready. He’ll be ready to go the second he lands there. …What SJ comes with, what he’s going to bring, I think he brings a dynamic that the University of Miami and the offensive line are going to shy away from. I think he’ll bring a different dynamic that will help Miami’s offensive line as far as he’s constantly physical, he’s constantly working, he’s constantly watching film, he’s always doing something for the benefit of his position group.”

Toledo watched Alofaituli develop from another kid at Bishop Gorman into a starting guard as a freshman, one of the school’s best offensive linemen and eventually one of the country’s most highly-touted recruits, so he doesn’t want Alofaituli to change much heading into his senior season. He still wants Alofaituli to be the same hyper physical, attentive and hard-working lineman that helped him earn a starting spot at one of the country’s top high schools as a freshman, although he said he’d like to see Alofaituli continue to raise his football IQ.

“Physicality-wise, strength and speed, weight, pad level, technique, every top-10 (high school) has that,” Toledo said. “He has that. I would love to see him reading defenses, just if he could sharpen that up. He’s already so good at it, but at the ACC level, he’s going to see a lot of that. No one is going to play Miami in a vanilla defense. So if he could just get used to seeing different things, different looks, I’m sure he’ll adjust to the speed right away. What coach Mirabal and coach (Mario) Cristobal do with those guys is nothing short of amazing. So if he could get his football IQ up, I’m sure he’ll be ready to get in there and compete right away.”

Alofaituli is expected to early enroll.

    CaneSport’s Take

We’re expecting Alofaituli to possibly be the Hurricanes center of the future if things pan out, and I truly believe he’s one of the country’s highest-floor offensive linemen. I have little doubt he’ll be ready to contribute after one offseason at Miami.
