Miami Hurricanes remain a top choice for rising 2026 WR Tayveon Wilson: “This program is only going up”

Back in March, the Miami Hurricanes became the first Power Four program to offer Huntington Prep (W. Va.) 2026 wide receiver Tayveon Wilson . Since then, schools such as Clemson, Penn State, Arkansas, Louisville, and more have entered the race for the rising pass catcher.

While several other programs have shown interest in Wilson, who visited Miami for the first time this past July, he remains high on the Canes.

“It was really nice, and I liked the campus,” Wilson told CaneSport. “I got along well with everyone on the coaching staff, and it was a real good experience.”

During his time in Coral Gables, Wilson spent numerous hours with Hurricanes tight ends coach Cody Woodiel . Since Woodiel offered the 6-foot-3, 205-pounder, communication has remained consistent, so getting to meet him in person was something important for Wilson.

“It was nice to finally get to see him without texting or calling him,” Wilson said. “West Virginia is a long way away, but I wanted to make sure I got here before making a decision.”

While Miami and Huntington, West Virginia, may be very different in a multitude of ways, Wilson, who caught 27 receptions for 588 yards and 11 touchdowns while also rushing for four touchdowns and scoring four combined touchdowns on the defensive side of the ball and special teams, could see himself in South Florida after spending time on campus.

“Location, and it’s Florida,” Wilson said when asked what attracted him to Miami. “I feel like this program is only going up from where they are and I feel like it would be good for me to be a part of that.”

With new offers continuing to roll in, West Virginia, Penn State, Clemson, and Miami are the handful of programs Wilson is high on heading into his junior season.

“Academics and a nice coaching staff that will push me,” Wilson said when asked what he looks for in a potential program.

After seeing Miami, the Hurricanes solidified themselves in that group.

“It changed a lot of how I view Miami,” Wilson said. “I’ve never been down to Miami, so just getting to see everything in person and not in pictures means a lot.”

    CaneSport’s take

Although listed as a wide receiver, Wilson is being recruited as a tight end by the Hurricanes, who have been high on the West Virginia native for some time. Getting him on campus was a priority for Woodiel and the Canes staff, and it looks as if they left a lasting impression.
