We may be a few weeks away from the start of the new high school football season and less than four months from the Early Signing Period, but that doesn’t mean Miami has stopped rolling out offers to 2025 prospects.

The Hurricanes offered Geismar (La.) Dutchtown 2025 running back Lekedrin Harvey late last week as the Canes continue to consider adding a second running back to go along with four-star commit Girard Pringle. Miami has already offered more than a dozen running backs total in the class, although Harvey is the first 2025 running back to receive a Miami offer in several months.

The 6-foot, 205-pound running back is not yet ranked by any of the three major recruiting databases and has largely received interest from Group of Five programs until the last several weeks. But programs like Penn State, North Carolina and Miami have expressed interest since the start of summer.

Miami would be okay with potentially taking one running back in the class, but the Hurricanes expressed real interest in Harvey while extending the offer.

“(My recruitment) is still open,” Harvey said. “I wasn’t really a starter last year. I had somebody over me. So this is my year to really show all of the schools that never looked at me that I’m the man — I’m the guy that I can make their school that much better.”

Harvey said Miami running backs coach Matt Merritt told him he liked him playing style and believes he could be a serious weapon in Coral Gables, although Harvey admitted he knows little about the Hurricanes as a program. He said he’d like to make a trip to Miami this fall but isn’t sure what may fit into his schedule.

“That was one of my dream schools, because it’s the city of speed, and that’s what I’ve got: the speed,” Harvey said. “It’s really a nice area. I actually want to go somewhere bigger and better.”

Harvey said Penn State, North Carolina and Marshall have recruited him hard thus far.

Several schools appear to be interested in seeing if Harvey will burst onto the scene this fall and believe he could potentially be a hidden gem that has flown under the radar. Miami is still in pursuit of local four-star running back Byron Louis, who is split between the Hurricanes and FSU, but we’ll keep an eye on Harvey to see if he blossoms into a star this fall.
