“The best ability is availability” is one of sports’ oldest clichés, but it’s true. And 22 players on Notre Dame’s 2024 roster were available for and played in every game last season.
Twenty of them played in all 13 games, while two more were transfer additions who played in all 12 regular-season matchups for teams (Florida International and South Carolina) who were not bowl-eligible.

Coogan, the only Notre Dame player to start all 13 games on offense in 2023, suddenly finds himself with his job in serious jeopardy. Sophomore guard Sam Pendleton has seemingly jumped him and senior Rocco Spindler for the starting left guard spot, although Irish head coach Marcus Freeman said Saturday that the first-team offensive line is not set in stone quite yet.
Every running back listed got in every game on offense, not just special teams. Even with a bona fide bell cow in Audric Estimé , Notre Dame proved it can involve several running backs in its game plans.
Defensively, the Irish were and are extremely durable. Five projected starters are on that list, including three players at the top of their position in Watts, Mills and Cross. Junior cornerback Benjamin Morrison would be there as well if not for a minor quad injury that held him out for only one game.
Heard has the most experience of any Notre Dame player, with 2,270 career snaps. A whopping 853 of those came across 13 games in 2023.
