    — Over the weekend, Mike Uva had some great notes laying out what happened inside Williams-Brice Stadium during the scrimmage. Check those out here , in case you missed them.

    — I’ll co-sign on what Uva said about the defense flying around on Saturday and that the front had a really good day.

There are always two ways to look at this: on days where a defensive front is dominant, is that more a credit to the defense or a concern about the offensive line?

There’s no question that the front six/seven on defense is expected to be a strength of this team. Going up against that group every day in camp will help the offensive line – which I do expect to be a better group overall this season. The question is whether or not that improvement is modest or large. The true test will be when the OL goes up against an SEC-level opponent. And, of course, that will happen quickly in week two against Kentucky.

    — Speaking of the offensive line: I’m not ready to call it “done”, but it’s quite possible that true freshman Josiah Thompson is the Gamecocks’ starting left tackle in 2024. He’s pulled down lots of first team reps and sources have called it probable that he’s the starter.

    — I had a source mention to me that true freshman safety David Bucey looked the part during scrimmage. He was described as a “dog”. In his play/redshirt projections, Wes Mitchell had Bucey as as “play” this season, primarily due to the fact that he’s a guy who could factor in on special teams.

I was more in the camp of redshirt for Bucey, but what I heard after Saturday is making me rethink that. Regardless, it looks like Bucey’s a guy the staff likes a good bit.

    — Two players that were mentioned on offense as standouts were Rocket Sanders and Jared Brown.

It’s a bit difficult to get a handle on the top six at the receiver position, but a few guys have seemed to separate themselves during camp. Brown is one of them.

    — USC also has a battle going on at the kicker position, and the eye test on Saturday gave the impression that senior Alex Herrera may be ahead in that race.

We’ll have more team and scrimmage notes this week. Thanks for being a member of GamecockCentral.com!
