All along, the Florida Gators have planned to sign multiple tight ends in the 2025 class. And thankfully for Billy Napier ‘s staff, those spots are occupied following a pair of summer commitments.

Micah Jones , who hails from Madison (Miss.) Central, is one of those future Florida tight ends. The Early Signing Period is still months away, but there has not been much buzz, if any, surrounding additional schools. The in-state programs, Ole Miss and Mississippi State, are ones we are still monitoring though.

Both of those campuses are roughly two hours from Jones’ home, and with college football set to start, you can’t completely rule out other visits.

Below, Gators Online breaks down what UF fans need to know about the 6-foot-5, 240-pound senior.

Why Micah Jones committed to Florida

“I think the program’s going up,” Jones told On3’s Chad Simmons . “They had a couple of guys that were Freshman All-Americans. As those guys get older, they are going to get better and recruits are going to see that. I feel like Florida is coming up and in the next three-to-four years, Florida can be a contender for an SEC championship.

“The culture is amazing,” Jones added. “It’s in a college town, so everybody in the community is supporting the Gators. It’s an up-and-coming school. I see a lot of young guys who are talented. By the time I get there, I think Florida’s going to be a really good team because they are up-and-coming in the SEC.”

3 takeaways from the film room

College-Ready Size : Jones is nearly 6-foot-5 along with being a lean 250 pounds. He has long arms too. His frame could easily pack on more weight if needed, but that’s a good playing weight at any level. He definitely has room to get stronger though, so he has a good frame that will benefit from being in a college strength and conditioning program. In today’s age of college football, you have numerous tight ends who are much leaner and play like a wide receiver. Jones is more of your throwback with a well-rounded skill set.

Reliable : Whether he’s in traffic or wide open in the flat, Jones shows soft hands. He does not look uncomfortable as a receiver. This is not a tight end who is going to take the top off a defense; however, Jones does move the chains and does a good job of knowing where the first-down marker is. He shows the ability to catch through contact and boasts a large catch radius for his quarterback to throw to. This is one of those tight ends who can find holes in a zone defense and do damage.

Willingness as a blocker : I also like Micah Jones’ eagerness to mix it up as a run blocker. He does a good job of providing a pop at the point of attack and is typically relentless when trying to get his opponent to the ground. Also, it’s worth noting Jones is consistent with playing under control. He can continue to improving on driving defenders out of the play, but the technique is in place. It’s just about getting more stronger and that will happen during his time with the Gators.
