To the surprise of no one who watched a Notre Dame football game over the past three years, former Irish offensive tackle Joe Al t has made quite the first impression in his first NFL preseason.

Playing right tackle with the Los Angeles Chargers, Alt — the fifth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft — posted an 80.7 Pro Football Focus pass-blocking grade in his second start against the Los Angeles Rams. He allowed no pressures in 15 pass-blocking opportunities.

Over his first two games, Alt’s PFF run-blocking grade is a well-above-average 76.6.

Alt started 33 games for the Irish, becoming a fixture in the Irish offensive line as early as Week 6 of his freshman year. As a junior, he was a unanimous first-team All-American, allowing only 5 quarterback pressures the entire season.

Alt and the Chargers have one more preseason game at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday against the Dallas Cowboys, and they open the regular season at 1:05 p.m. ET on Sept. 8 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

    Quote of the day

“This is a prospect that we loved at On3. He was a considerable outlier for On3 in the rankings process, finishing as a top-100 prospect, and is one who we simply loved on film. Anthonie Knapp is highly technical, he’s been coached very well at the high school level and had some of the best film that we saw, particularly senior film, at offensive line in the 2024 cycle. He has true positional versatility, he could play a number of spots on the offensive line.”
