As Softball America grows its coverage at all levels, we continue our recruiting spotlight series with Sophia Burmeister. The 2025 Clemson commit will travel from across the country to don the Purple and Orange.

    Name: Sophia Burmeister
    Primary Position(s): C/3B
    Class Year: 2025
    Hometown: San Diego, Calif.
Travel Ball Organization: Breakers Labs 18u Gold Bobby

What about college did you love the most?

One thing that I love the most about Clemson is the whole school feels like one big family! All the teams support one another and the whole city is just so involved with the university. It also helped that the coaching staff was amazing and felt like home as well!

What is your favorite travel ball memory?

One of my favorite travel ball memories is from last year in Colorado when I was still with power surge and I came up to bat in the last inning down by two with 2 out and 2 strikes in me with runners on first and second. All I was thinking was base hit so I could keep us in the game or at least score one run. The next pitch came it was a rise inside that i was able to get a hold of and I hit a walk-off home run to advance our team to the next game.

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned from a coach?

There have been many coaches along the way who have helped guide/teach me and helped me to grow and get better. All of those coaches have played a significant role in my journey and deserve credit as well, but the once coach that stands out most in my mind is my current coach Bobby Labs. I moved to Coach Bobby’s team a little less tthana year ago. Since then Coach Bobby has allowed me to be “me” which has pushed me to another level. My discipline, with ethic and love for the game all have increased and I really feel that his help is what helped earn me CIF Player of the Year this year.

How did you get interested in softball?

I got interested in softball when I was about 5. I was always going to my brother and sisters’ baseball and softball games. I just remember always standing right at the fence being so involved with what was going on in the game and waiting for my turn. I just knew that I was going to be on that field one day and push myself to be the best I could be.

What are your strengths as a player? What are you trying to improve on the most?

I think my strength as a player is my power at the plate and behind the plate. I also believe that I am a very hhard-workingplayer that doesn’t give up when things get tough. I will be working on this summer is studying pitches as my goal for next season is to push my batting average from mid to high .400 to over .500. I am also looking forward to increasing my pop time and working on some things behind the plate.

What are your favorite hobbies outside of softball?

My favorite hobbies outside of softball is photography. I also currently play field hockey to keep busy in the offseason during high school.

What excites you the most about playing college softball?

I am looking forward to everything! I’m looking forward to playing with and against girls I have been watching and looking up to for years! I’m looking forward to playing at the next level, traveling all over with the team and creating lifelong bonds.
