The Crimson Countdown is officially on for the 2024 Oklahoma football season. Fans have been waiting for what feels like forever with this one. The Sooners are finally and officially joining the SEC.

The 2023 season was a rebound one for head coach Brent Venables , getting the program back to its standard. OU went 10-3 in Venables’ second season, now it’s time for year No. 3.

2023 stats : Started 10 games, 30 tackles, four tackles for loss, three interceptions, fumble recovery.

2024 outlook :

Stay healthy. That’s it. That’s all that OU fans are asking for when it comes to Williams. When he has been healthy and on the field, Williams has been incredibly productive. But one nagging injury feels like it’s been plaguing him from reaching his full potential.

Williams has star written all over him. The way he has grasped the position has actually been pretty eye-opening for someone who never played the spot in high school.

There is no doubt Williams can make the big play. He just, you know, needs to be out there to be able to do just that.

2024 cornerback outlook

The cornerback room is another unit that has more depth than usual for the Sooners. Junior Gentry Williams returns for his third season and is expected to start at one spot, if he’s healthy. There are several players, though, pushing Williams for one of the two starting spots, including new San Diego State transfer Dez Malone and Louisville transfer Kani Walker, who is now in his third year in Norman. Young guys Jacobe Johnson and Makari Vickers have also been impressive, hoping to have a bigger role in 2024.
