Columbia guard Lauren Jacobs picked up an offer from South Carolina Tuesday night. Jacobs is ranked 89th in the 2025 class according to HoopGurlz.

5-8 Jacobs has deep Gamecock ties. She began playing at Cardinal Newman playing with Ashlyn Watkins for former Gamecock Asia Dozier. She then transferred to Heathwood Hall, A’ja Wilson’s alma mater, where Jacobs is coached by former Gamecock Brionna Dickerson-Zimmerman.

Dawn Staley has rarely let a local recruit get away, and keeping Jacobs home would fit that trend.

Jacobs is not as highly ranked as most Gamecock recruits, but she has power conference offers from Clemson, Ole Miss, Auburn, and Penn State, among others. She averaged over 30 points last season, including a 45-point game in the playoffs, so clearly Jacobs has talent.

As a local prospect with strong academics, Jacobs could be a hometown take similar to Olivia Thompson or Elysa Wesolek (although she is a better prospect than they were). In the short term, South Carolina might be looking at her as a developmental prospect who can provide depth.

South Carolina does not have any commitments for 2025, but is a finalist for at least seven other recruits. On Tuesday, GamecockCentral broke down where they stand . (+)
