Seven days from today is the start of week one of the 2024 college football season. Around the state of Kentucky, you can feel football in the air. That’s not a metaphor. The milder weather in the area is the best kind of weather, Football Weather.

If you can’t wait any longer to scratch that football itch, do not fret. Tomorrow night high school football games will be underway across the Commonwealth. On Saturday, the sport is getting the ball rolling across the pond when College GameDay travels to Dublin for the week zero matchup between Florida State and Georgia Tech.

Football is so close. Just hold on. We’ll be there before you know it.

    Kentucky Football Closes Fall Camp

You know football is close when Kentucky shifts into game prep. Fall camp has reached the end of its time at the Joe Craft Football Training Facility. Brad White and the Kentucky defense will speak with the media following this morning’s practice. The team will meet tomorrow, then receive a little break before getting into the game week routine. We can see the light at the end of the preseason tunnel.

    Scratch Your Football Gambling Itch

The games don’t have to be played for you to make lock-in wagers. Futures are a profitable way to make some money and we’ve got you covered. Matt Jones and Drew Franklin teamed up for a new edition of Fade This . Adam Luckett and I dug deeper into the weeds to share college football season win total selections on 11 Personnel.

On the podcast, we made five picks apiece. Luckett dug deeper on KSR+ and gave out ten selections . The previous 40 he shared went 31-9. You should probably join KSR+ and follow that guy’s advice.

    Joey Votto Retires

The best Cincinnati Red most contemporary fans ever watched in person officially hung up his cleats for good on Wednesday. Joey Votto announced on Instagram Wednesday night that he is officially retiring from baseball. He spent the 2024 season in the Blue Jays minor league system but did not get called up after 31 appearances.

In 17 seasons with the Reds, Votto had a .294 batting average, 356 homers, 1,144 RBIs, and a .409 on-base percentage. He led the National League in on-base percentage seven times, earned six All-Star appearances, and was named NL MVP in 2010. A beacon of consistency, the Reds’ first basement was a Mr. Reliable, even after injuries plagued him later in his career. His final at-bat at Great American Ballpark was a single that earned a standing ovation from the Cincinnati faithful.

As a Reds’ Hall of Fame career closes, the next great Cincinnati player tallied another eye-opening achievement. Elly De La Cruz became just the fifth Major Leaguer to record 20 home runs and 60 stolen bases in the same season.

    Iowa Football Coach Suspended

Kirk Ferentz’s program isn’t as squeaky clean as you might expect. The Iowa head coach and wide receivers coach Jon Budmayr have been suspended for the season-opener against Illinois State. The suspension stems from the recruitment of Cade McNamara .

McNamara led Michigan to a CFB Playoff berth but has kinda stunk it up in the preseason after missing the entire 2023 campaign with a leg injury. McNamara completed just 8 of 24 passes for 20 yards and an interception in a scrimmage. Was it worth the one-game suspension, Kirk?

KSR is at the Kentucky State Fair

The Kentucky State Fair is one of the greatest events in the calendar year. This morning Matt Jones and the crew will be in Louisville to entertain and delight the patrons, who will also serve as entertainment. After all, it is unequivocally the best people-watching event, just ask Shannon the Dude, a State Fair connoisseur. The gang will be on the stage at South Wing B. Don’t miss it.
