The Crimson Countdown is officially on for the 2024 Oklahoma football season. Fans have been waiting for what feels like forever with this one. The Sooners are finally and officially joining the SEC.

The 2023 season was a rebound one for head coach Brent Venables , getting the program back to its standard. OU went 10-3 in Venables’ second season, now it’s time for year No. 3.

Every day as we get closer to kickoff, SoonerScoop.com will count down the days with you. Starting with No. 99 and working our way to No. 0, we’ll be there every step of the way.

Crimson Countdown: No. 5 Andrel Anthony

2023 stats : Started six games, 27 receptions for 429 yards, TD, tore ACL vs. Texas.

    2024 outlook :

Anthony was a surprise of the first half of the 2023 season. He came in and was immediately a big factor for the Sooners. It was a crushing blow when he tore his ACL against the Longhorns.

The good news? There has not been a setback. Anthony isn’t ahead of schedule, but he has been on track the entire time.

Hopefully, the injury doesn’t derail what had made Anthony so special last season. And there will be a question about the chemistry with Jackson Arnold. How long will it take?

The wide receiver room looks deep but has been hit by the injury bug. A healthy Anthony will go a long way for the Sooners.

    2024 wide receiver outlook

There’s no offensive position with more depth than wide receiver. While the Sooners lose leading receiver Drake Stoops to the NFL, they return everyone else. Jalil Farooq and Andrel Anthony are both back, but both missed most of the spring with injuries. Nic Anderson, who led the team in touchdowns last season, is also back. And Jayden Gibson looks to have a bigger role next year after a strong spring. But the X factor for the Sooners might be Purdue transfer Deion Burks, who showed everyone he might be the best weapon OU has during the Spring Game.
