The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets pulled off the first major upset of the 2024 season in the first game of the 2024 season by beating the Florida State Seminoles in Dublin, Ireland.

To celebrate the win, Georgia Tech fired back after beating FSU at the crew of ESPN College GameDay , particularly Desmond Howard , Nick Saban , and Kirk Herbstreit for picking against the Yellow Jackets in the game with a video they posted on social media.

Clearly, Georgia Tech kept the receipts ahead of the game, down to the analysis of why people felt that the Yellow Jackets would lose. That included Desmond Howard saying FSU was too strong in the trenches before the video cuts to a downfield run from Jamal Haynes .

After that, it was Nick Saban’s turn. The legendary coach is now working as an analyst. He had FSU winning, again pointing to the size and depth of the Seminoles. So, the Yellow Jackets made sure to cut that against another powerful run from Haynes.

Flipping things, Kirk Herbstreit had spoken about how excited he was to watch FSU run the ball. So, the video cuts to an excellent defensive play stuffing a run. That became a trend throughout the game, with Georgia Tech holding FSU to just 98 rushing yards on the day.

In a lot of ways, Jamal Haynes was the star of the video. Several of his highlights are used throughout it. That includes the play where he juked two FSU defenders, causing them to crash into one another. He’d finish the day with 75 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns, and 16 receiving yards.

The video also made sure to slow down Pat McAfee saying, “I like Florida State by a lot” before showing the game-winning kick.

At least guest picker Sheamus picked Georgia Tech to win the game. In doing so, he became the only panel member to pick the Yellow Jackets. That also led to him getting the last word in the video before showing the celebration from Georgia Tech in Dublin.

Georgia Tech coach Brent Key calls Nick Saban a ‘huge mentor’ in his career

Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key spent time on Nick Saban’s staff at Alabama from 2016 through 2018. Now, he considers him to be a huge mentor.

“It’s really cool for him to be here, for him to see this next chapter of his life. I think everyone’s excited to see that and what the value he’ll be able to bring to the network and to game day. On a personal level, he’s been a huge mentor to me,” Key said .

“He’s been a huge impact in my coaching career and a lot of the things I do day-to-day now as a head coach and a lot of the things in our program. There’s a very, very strong influence from him all over the Georgia Tech football program. So to be able to see him, talk to him, catch up on some other things and talk a little football as well is the greatest thing.”
