The Dallas Cowboys are dealing with multiple important contract negotiations going into the 2024 season that will shape the offense moving forward, including extensions for quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb .

NFL insider Jeremy Fowler made an appearance on SportsCenter . There, he shared an update on the ongoing negotiations between Dallas and the Cowboys’ star offensive players.

“The situation is talks [with Prescott] have been ongoing,” Fowler said. “They’re really every couple of days. The stage is set for Dallas to place the urgency on CeeDee Lamb, the wide receiver. To get that deal done it’s going to cost them well above $30 million per year. CeeDee Lamb is trying to get as close as he can get to that Justin Jefferson market of about $35 million a year, but they’re trying to find a sweet spot on all those points. I expect Lamb to be done first.”

Dallas has been without CeeDee Lamb this preseason as he holds out for a new contract. After a season where he had 1,749 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns, he’s expected to be important for Dallas in 2024. At the same time, having franchise quarterback Dak Prescott locked up is also important long-term.

“They’re gonna try to get Prescott done before Week 1 as well and double down on both these guys and spend a ton of money,” Fowler said. “So, it’s still unclear if they can pull this off.”

Prescott hasn’t held out ahead of the 2024 season. However, negotiations are ongoing and he knows he’s in a good position to get paid, be it in Dallas or somewhere else via free agency. The Cowboys know that too and want a deal before the season.

“Prescott, if you talk to people in and around the situation, he’s well aware of how well he could do in free agency if he were to let this ride out, play well again, put up a huge QBR, and then be there in March for $60 million a year — whatever it’s gonna cost. It’s gonna cost a lot,” Fowler said. “So, I don’t think both sides want that. They want to try to shake this out with a deal, but it’s gonna take a lot of leg work over the next two weeks.”

Jerry Jones on Dak Prescott’s contract extension

Recently, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones shared where he currently stands on a contract extension for Dak Prescott.

“We’re just continuing to talk,” Jones said . “…Since we’re [approaching] in-season, we’re operating under the existing contract.”

In 2021, Prescott signed a four-year contract worth $160 million and with $126 million guaranteed. That makes the 2024 season the final year of his contract.

After watching Lance throw 5 interceptions yesterday and knowing Rush is a solid backup only, the urgency to sign Dak should be increasing.
