Paul Finebaum hasn’t been shy to voice his distaste for Florida State ‘s fans in the past few months. On Saturday, No. 10 Florida State gave the SEC Network analyst more material to work with after falling 24-21 to Georgia Tech . On Sunday, Finebaum jabbed Florida State for its stunning loss.

“I kept expecting an attorney to walk out to midfield and slap Ireland or Guinness with a lawsuit,” Finebaum said on SportsCenter . “Florida State always finds someone else to blame when things don’t go their way and we saw that last year when they blamed the media. Then, they started suing their own league, and it was really the worst possible start for a team that so many people expected to make the playoffs.

“I realize that’s not over yet, but the way they performed yesterday, especially offensively, this team better call Judge Judy or somebody because I don’t think they’re going to make it. I mean, getting run over by a middle-of-the-road ACC team — it was music to the ears of a lot of Florida State haters.”

Of course, Finebaum is referring to Florida State’s reaction to not receiving a spot in the College Football Playoff last season. Florida State was the first Power Five program to post a flawless regular season record and win its conference championship but not receive a berth in the CFP.

Florida State fans rebelled against the CFP selection committee’s ruling, repeatedly calling the decision unfair. The FSU faithful weren’t afraid to turn their criticism toward reporters either — including Finebaum — when they sided with the selection committee’s decision.

In April, Florida State followed up its outcry by suing the ACC over its $140 million exit penalty and the grant of rights used to bind the school through its media rights. Despite Florida State’s surplus of offseason fuel, they were unable to produce a fiery win on Saturday.

The Yellow Jackets stunned the Seminoles with a game-winning field goal. According to FanDuel , Florida State was a 10.5-point favorite before the game. The win was Georgia Tech’s first over a top-10 opponent since a 22-16 victory over the Seminoles in October 2015.

Although the loss immediately puts a stain on Florida State’s résumé, the season is far from over. For the For the first time ever, the CFP will be a 12-team format, with the Power Four conference champions earning the top four seeds in the bracket.

With games against ranked opponents such as Clemson , Miami and Notre Dame later this season, the Seminoles will have plenty of opportunities to turn their 2024 campaign around.
