What started as an unassuming phone call turned into a heartfelt moment between Washington Nationals prospect Dylan Crews and his mother.

The former LSU star is set to make his MLB debut on Monday after being drafted by the Nationals with the No. 2 overall pick in last year’s MLB Draft. Crews is considered one of the top prospects in baseball and the top prospect for Washington, so the move is more than justified.

When the outfielder found out the news, he had to call his mother to let her know, and the Nationals captured the moment and shared it to social media. Check it out below , as Crews’ mother went from talking about grocery shopping to being hit with a massive swerve from her son.

That certainly tugs at your heartstrings. Videos like that never get old, and the Nationals did a wonderful job in highlighting one of the biggest moments of their outfielder’s life, as they hope he makes a gigantic impact at the MLB level.

Moreover, Crews has been playing at Triple-A Rochester since June after starting the 2024 season at the Double-A level. During his time at Double-A and Triple-A this year Crews is hitting .272 with 21 doubles, 6 triples, 13 home runs and 68 RBIs across 99 games.

Additionally, Crews was selected with the No. 2 pick in the 2023 MLB Draft following an incredible career and final season at LSU. He hit .426 with a .567 on-base percentage in 2023, helping the Tigers win the national championship. Crews added 18 home runs, 70 RBIs and scored 100 runs.

Continuing, Crews was named the Golden Spikes Award winner last season, as he and Paul Skenes led the way during LSU’s run to a national title.

Speaking of Skenes, he is already in the Big Leagues and starring for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The righty is 8-2 with a 2.16 ERA across 17 starts. The All-Star Game starter has an incredible 130 strikeouts in 104 innings pitched and has a WHIP of 0.94.

Crews and Skenes should see each other and potentially face off down the line as the Nationals and Pirates are scheduled to meet in a four-game series from Sept. 5 through Sept. 8. It will be a fun reunion for what is expected to be two of the future stars of the sport.

Until then, Dylan Crews will be looking to get his feet wet in the MLB, as he readies for his debut, hoping to become the next in a long line of stars for the Washington Nationals. His mom will be there to see it all.
