The SRX Racing saga continues. Remember when we all thought that Skip Barber Racing had purchased it? Well, they didn’t. At least, the two parties were unable to fulfill the agreement at hand and now there is legal action being taken.

The 2024 SRX Racing season was canceled before it ever began . When the series moved from CBS to weeknights on ESPN, it suffered. There were almost no viewers to keep it afloat, even in a six-week time frame.

Skip Barber Racing School announced in March that they had purchased the series. Now, SRX Racing is saying no payments have been made and Skip Barber breached their agreement by making that announcement in March.

“The Agreement stated that the parties would close the transaction on April 30, 2024. The Agreement also stated that the transaction was to be private and neither party would announce the transaction without the prior consent of the other party.

“Contrary to that, and without Superstar’s consent, Skip Barber Racing and DeMonte issued a press release falsely stating that they had acquired SRX. In fact, DeMonte and Skip Barber Racing have failed to pay any amount of the purchase price or otherwise fulfill their promise to close the transaction. Consequently, contrary to their false public statements, Skip Barber Racing did not purchase and does not own SRX or any of the series’ assets.”

There is a lawsuit now in Rowan County, North Carolina against the parties named .

Don’t count your chicks before they hatch. This has been a wild ride. SRX Racing appeared to be a fun series for race fans to enjoy. However, for one reason or another it did not work on traditional television.

SRX is seeking out options regarding its future.

SRX Racing had big hopes and dreams

The idea of SRX Racing was great. Having Tony Stewart , Don Hawk, and Ray Evernham as part of the original ownership group had many excited. They are three men who have been successful in about everything that they have ever done.

While the in-person crowds were great, the big names were showing up, local stars racing against iconic names like Helio Castroneves – it just did not come together as a TV product.

When you put something on ESPN or CBS, you expect to get views. Perhaps SRX Racing, if it can ever revive itself, is best suited for a streaming platform. Then again, if you aren’t on major TV, will the big names show up to the race?

The experiment was fun. We got to see drivers in… well you can’t call them stock cars, but they have fenders! These cars were great for short track racing, dirt racing, and drivers from outside of those disciplines were more than happy to give it a shot. Even Ron Capps of NHRA. Do you think we will ever see another SRX race?
