Dan Lanning reveals Dakoda Fields will be ‘down for a little bit’ with knee injury

Dakoda Fields’ freshman season at Oregon will start later than the rest of their class’ per the latest out of Eugene.

During a media availability on Wednesday , Dan Lanning revealed that Fields will be out for the Ducks for the foreseeable future due to a knee injury. He didn’t provide a timeframe for his recovery but said it would be a bit for the defensive back.

“Dakoda is going to be down for a little bit. Had a knee injury,” said Lanning.

“We’re going to have to work to get him back. Don’t want to put a timeline on it but it’ll be a while.”

This is another injury update for the Ducks from this week along with names like Matthew Bedford , Dave Iuli , Jahlil Florence , and Gary Bryant Jr ..

Fields is a product out of Junipero Serra as a native of Gardena, California. He was a four-star prospect there as the No. 111 overall recruit in the 2024 cycle . That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking , a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was also rated as the No. 16 CB in the class and the No. 8 prospect from out of the state .

Following his flip from an in-state program in USC , Fields signed with Oregon as the eighth highest-rated player out of 27 total commitments in their No. 3 class according to On3’s 2024 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings . He comes into their secondary along two other corners in Ify Obidegwu and Sione Laulea along with a pair of safeties with Aaron Flowers and Kingston Lopa .

Fields had been an interesting young name in his time thus far with the Ducks. However, he will begin his collegiate career on the sidelines as he rehabs from this issue with his knee.

Dan Lanning casts doubt on Matthew Bedford’s status for opener

Matthew Bedford suffered a knee injury earlier this month during Ducks fall camp. His status for the season opener has been up in the air since.

Dan Lanning updated Bedford’s timeline after practice on Wednesday. The good news for the Ducks is he was able to get back on the practice field this week. Lanning originally projected the injury to hold out Bedford for multiple weeks but he was suited up at practice with what appears to be a wrap on his right knee.

“He’s able to move around,” Lanning told reporters. “But I don’t know that he’ll be able to help us in game one or not. We’ll see what it looks like. We’ll continue to assess it.”

“Yeah, we’ll see on Saturday,” Lanning said. “There’s a lot of guys that I think can play winning football. You guys want to know every single starter. For me, it’s about how many guys can play winning football for us and you can see more than one guy in those situations.”
