Dalvin Cook to wear No. 20 with Dallas Cowboys

Dalvin Cook will wear No. 20 with the Dallas Cowboys this season, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter .

For the first time in his career, Cook will wear a number in the 20s. With Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets, he wore No. 33. But he also wore No. 4 briefly with the Vikings and eventually No. 31 with the Baltimore Ravens in a brief stint last year.

A new era for the former Florida State running back will begin this year in Dallas, joining fellow veteran Ezekiel Elliott , who returned to the team.

Cook, 29, was one of the premier free agents on the market and signs less than two weeks before the regular season opener. Dallas brought in Cook on a visit Monday and determined that he was in good shape.

He will start on the practice squad and work on familiarizing himself with the offensive system before being activated, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero noted. Cook will join a backfield which includes Elliott, Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn .

A four-time Pro Bowler, Cook rushed for 1,000 plus yards in each season from 2019-22 but had his toughest season to date in 2023. Following his release from the Minnesota Vikings, Cook signed a one-year deal with the New York Jets. New York’s offense struggled as a whole, with Cook rushing for a career low 214 yards on 3.2 yards per carry in 15 games.

The two sides mutually agreed to part ways after the regular season, and Cook signed with the Baltimore Ravens for the playoffs. In Baltimore’s 34-10 Divisional Round win over the Houston Texans, Cook rushed for 23 yards on eight carries.

Cook has tallied 5,238 rushing yards over the last five seasons, fourth-most in the NFL over that stretch, behind only the Ravens’ Derrick Henry , Green Bay Packers’ Josh Jacobs and Cleveland Browns’ Nick Chubb . He is one spot ahead of Elliott on that list.
