Rapid Recap: Kansas State feeling good at cornerback position

Position improving from start of training camp

Kansas State defensive coordinator Joe Klanderman was asked by Derek Young of KSO a player or position group that has made the most progress since training camp began. He paused for a bit and then decided on cornerback.

K-State knew what they had with Keenan Garber and Jacob Parrish . After all, those two might be the most praised players throughout fall camp. They’ll certainly be up for All-Big 12 consideration if you ask any coach in Manhattan.

Where Kansas State has improved at the position is the depth. The Wildcats feel much better about cornerbacks three through five than they did before August. Justice James , Jordan Dunbar and Donovan McIntosh have all flashed.

Nose tackle notes

Damian Ilalio was listed at the starting nose tackle over Uso Seumalo on the initial K-State depth chart.

Hard work has been what has propped up the Manhattan native. During the month of July, Ilalio had all of the nose tackles in a room and was at the front going over film and teaching the younger players. He was on the board and diagramming things they would see this year.

That was at a time when Kansas State players aren’t normally even in the building that much. The moment in July has stuck with the K-State defensive coordinator.

Klanderman also believes Kansas State is in a better spot at the nose tackle position than they were last season. Both Ilalio and Seumalo were relatively unproven and Seumalo was also hurt for most of training camp, which lingered into the season.

UT-Martin offense at a glance

UT-Martin has a lot of experience back on offense. Especially at quarterback, Kinkead Dent is in his sixth collegiate season and second for the Skyhawks. Dent is a mobile quarterback and takes long strides, but he can also hurt you with his arm.

The interior of their offensive line and wide receivers have returning production as well. All of that continuity makes them a tough football team.
