This weekend, the Jayhawks burst out of the starting gates with a dominant 48-3 win over Lindenwood . In the win, Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels completed 9-of-his-15 pass attempts for 148 yards and a touchdown. Daniels also threw an interception in the contest.

Daniels was far from the only standout for the Jayhawks. Running back Devin Neal also had an excellent showing, recording eight carries for 112 yards and two scores. RBs Daniel Hishaw Jr. and Sevion Morrison notched touchdowns, as well.

Wide receiver Luke Grimm led the charge for Kansas out wide, erupting for 111 receiving yards and a TD. Meanwhile, the Jayhawks’ defense was equally stellar, holding Lindenwood to 202 total yards and finding the end zone on a pick-six.

Illinois will have its work cut out for it in Week 2. Nevertheless, the Fighting Illini will be riding high into the non-conference matchup too. On Saturday, Illinois blew out Eastern Illinois in a 45-0 effort.

Illinois QB Luke Altmyer was nearly perfect, completing 19-of-his-24 passes for 213 yards and four touchdowns. He didn’t throw a single interception. Altmyer certainly wasn’t afraid to share the wealth, finding 11 separate receivers in the win.

Senior wide receiver Patrick Bryant found the most success out wide, collecting five catches for 63 yards and two touchdowns in the triumph. Not to be out done, running back Kaden Feagin piled on 108 rushing yards and a score against the Panthers.

Now, with a game under both teams’ belts, the rubber will meet the road in Week 2 in what fans can only hope will be a jaw-dropping battle. After all, history is on the line.
