Kirk Herbstreit thanks Michigan for credentialing ‘Goodest Boy’ Ben, posts picture of field pass

Ahead of today’s scintillating showdown between Michigan and Texas , there’s one special guest who is getting the royal treatment behind the scenes.

That would be broadcaster Kirk Herbstreit ‘s dog, Ben .

Ben has been traveling with Herbstreit for most of the last year, accompanying him on the road, through the airports and into college football stadiums. He was a popular topic last week, when he showed up in the booth during the LSU vs. USC game.

But today, you can view Ben and his credential, as Herbstreit posted a picture of his field access pass online. Check it out below.

However, not everyone is fan of Ben being present at games. Some tweeted at Herbstreit during the LSU vs. USC game, wondering if Ben should be there at all, especially if he’s not a registered service animal. That criticism led to a response by Herbstreit on social media.

“(Blow it out your) A** Joe! See ya!!!” tweeted back Herbstreit.

“You’re a moron! Beat it!” Herbstreit posted separately.

The responses are more justifiable given what Herbstreit revealed in another tweet afterward . He shared that Ben has been battling cancerous masses this offseason. That’s why he’s so glad to have him back out on the road with him in time for this season, including today’s game at Michigan.

“(Ben) was diagnosed with leukemia in March and had major surgery in late July to remove 2 masses on his spleen and intestine. Both cancerous,” Herbstreit tweeted. “Been a challenging offseason for Ben but he has had an incredible recovery in the last few weeks. Just so thankful he’s feeling better and able to travel with me. Honestly I think being out and seeing people on the road really helps his spirit and gives him something to look forward to.”

“Will keep a very close eye on him and react accordingly,” wrote Herbstreit. “He had a GREAT week 1. Taking it one week at a time.”

Ben, who is 10 years old, has become one of the most popular pups in sports. And it’ll be good to see him in action today at Michigan.
