Colorado ‘s 28-10 loss to Nebraska on Saturday was a tough pill to swallow for Buffaloes fans who were expecting fireworks from their offense after a big-time performance in Week 1.
Instead, the Huskers’ defense held Colorado to -2 yards after the first quarter and the Buffs wouldn’t pick up a first down until their fifth possession of the game. The game served as a reminder of the struggles Colorado faced down the stretch last season — something they’ll have to overcome in short oder in their new conference if they want to be bowl eligable in 2024.

Set to face Colorado State this weekend ahead of their first game in the new-look Big 12 Conference against Baylor in Week 4, SEC Network analyst Paul Finebaum explained why he doesn’t see the postseason in Coach Prime’s future this season.
“I looked at the schedule today, and I just don’t see it for them. I think they’ll come very close. This looks like — yes, I’m about to say a five-win team for Deion Sanders, yet they’re still getting all the conversation but I think that is going to start fading in the next couple of weeks. They just don’t have an offensive line, and Shedeur [Sanders] is outstanding, but he’s going to run for his life. I just don’t see this team making much of a contribution.”

During the season opener, Shedeur Sanders would finish the 31-26 victory having completed 26 of 34 passes for 445 yards, four touchdowns and an interception. Compare that to 23 of 38 for 244 yards, one touchdown and an interception against Nebraska. Shedeur had all but 16 of Colorado’s yards on the day.
Travis Hunter has looked elite with 17 receptions for 242 yards and three touchdowns so far this season. Jimmy Horn Jr. has been strong with over 200 receiving yards to his credit as well. Still, the struggles on the offense line have bled over from last year and the team has 75 total rushing yards to their credit in two games. The’ve only been able to score touchdowns through the air so far.
Taking down Colorado State on Saturday will be a top priority for Coach Prime and company in Week 3. However, the Buffs can’t get caught looking ahead with the Big 12 opener against Baylor looming in Week 4.
Ranked matchups against Kansas State , Arizona , Utah , Kansas and Oklahoma State are all on the docket for Colorado this year as well.
