    Dak Prescott has been paid.

Just before the Dallas Cowboys kicked off their season against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, the starting quarterback got his deal and made history. The Cowboys are expected to make Prescott the highest paid player in the history of the NFL with a four-year, $240 million contract coming his way according to Adam Schefter.

The deal ends months of speculation as to what was next for the former Mississippi State QB. With his contract ending, Prescott was set to become one of the biggest free agents in history after the season concluded. The Cowboys got a deal for Prescott’s star receiver CeeDee Lamb and now will keep the duo together for the next few years.

Prescott is already one of the most successful Cowboys quarterbacks. Over the course of his eight years in the league, Prescott has started in all 114 games that he’s played with 29,459 yards, 202 touchdowns and 74 interceptions while completing 67% of his passes. He’s also rushed 407 times for 1,884 yards and 28 scores on the ground.

The Haughton, La., native is currently third in franchise history in passing yardage but less than 5,000 yards away from passing Tony Romo. Prescott is second in touchdowns and 46 away from the record.

One thing that Prescott is still chasing is playoff success. He’s currently 2-5 in the playoffs and fighting criticism, but the Cowboys have fought that for nearly 30 years now. Since winning their last Super Bowl in 1995, Dallas is 5-13 without a trip beyond the Division round.

During his career, Prescott has three Pro Bowl selections, was the Offensive Rookie of the Year, Walter Payton Man of the Year and has an All-Pro selection last season.

Prescott is a legendary figure in Starkville as he led the Bulldogs to the school’s first No. 1 ranking in 2014 and set numerous passing and rushing records during his three seasons as a starter. He was selected in the fourth round by the Cowboys in 2016.

Trevor Lawrence is making $55 million with a losing 20-30 record and 1 playoff win. Justin Herbert is making the same with a losing 30-32 record and 0 playoff wins. Tua has a 34-19 record with 0 playoff wins and is making $53 million. Lamar is making $53 million with a 58-19 record and 2 playoff wins. Deshaun Watson has a record of 32-30 with 1 playoff win and is making $230 million FULLY GUARANTEED. Dak has a 73-41 record and 2 playoff wins. If those guys are worth what they are making with worse (or same, in Lamar's case) playoff records and, for some, worse regular season records, then I guess Dak should be worth more than the $55 million they are making. It's insane, but it's just the current market for the NFL. I mean, you've got receivers making $35 million.
