Week 2 of the high school football season in Texas is in the books, with hundreds of games taking place across the Lone Star State over the weekend.
That included some major matchups featuring teams ranked among the state’s top 25 programs to start the year — headlined by a top-10 tilt between North Crowley and DeSoto. And now that the dust has settled, there’s been some shakeup across the rankings, which can be found below:
The On3 Massey Ratings , officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory. According to the model — four teams from Alabama rank inside the nationwide top 100.

Previous: No. 1
After being idle in Week 1, the Panthers traveled to face Dallas-area rival South Oak Cliff and handily defeated them 34-12. They have won back-to-back state titles for the first time in school history and will be top candidates to add another trophy to the mantle this season. Alabama QB commit Keelon Russell , the No. 3 signal-caller in the senior class, racked up five touchdowns in his senior debut.

The Dragons made relatively easy work of Midland in Week 1 in a 48-24 romp, then dominated Hebron to get off to a 2-0 start. Awaiting them in Week 3 is a matchup with top-15 foe Byron Nelson .
Previous: No. 4 (+1)
North Shore dominated South Oak Cliff 38-0 to open the season and then handled Crowley 28-13 in Week 2. Devin Sanchez , the No. 1-ranked cornerback in the country headed to Ohio State, leads a defense that is among the best in the state. Next up, they’ll host Westfield on Friday night as they look to get to 3-0.
Previous: No. 7 (+3)
Atascocita pulled off one of the biggest — and most impressive — wins of the early season over the weekend by beating a strong Katy team 41-24. They still have games against both Austin Westlake and Houston North Shore remaining on the schedule, but have established themselves as a legit contender for a state title this season.
Previous: No. 2 (-3)
The defending state champion Eagles were flying high after a 70-0 win over Creekside (Ga.) on opening weekend. They faced a different beast in Week 2 with top-10 foe North Crowley, who ultimately won a wild shootout 57-51. An impressive Miller team awaits on the schedule, and there’s also a showdown with No. 1 Duncanville still looming in early October.

North Crowley won one of its biggest games in recent memory by beating DeSoto in a thriller. The loss was DeSoto’s first since the 2022-23 season and moves the Panthers into the conversation as one of the state’s top teams. The schedule gets no easier this week though, as they’ll host No. 7 Denton Guyer in another massive showdown.

The Wildcats made relatively easy work of Arlington Martin in a comfortable 38-19 win on Friday night. Quarterback and Oklahoma commit Kevin Sperry threw two touchdowns in the victory, but has completed just 20 of his 48 attempts so far through two games. They’ll need a big game from him this weekend against North Crowley to keep up with the Panthers’ high-flying offense.

The Chaparrals had no problems beating No. 22 Prosper 35-14 in Week 1. They face a heavily overmatched San Benito squad on Friday, rolling to a 63-7 win behind their potent offense. Things get a lot tougher this weekend when they welcome Atascocita to town for a huge top-10 tilt.

Allen’s game against Cedar Hill looked to be one of the more competitive on paper last weekend, but the Eagles were dominant in a 42-14 win. Quarterback Brady Bricker continued an efficient start to the season, completing 8 of 12 passes for 141 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for another 52 yards and a score.

The Bulldogs have absolutely blitzed their first two opponents this season, beating Shadow Creek and Lamar by a combined score of 94-0. TCU four-star EDGE commit Chad Woodfork leads a talented defense. After losing to DeSoto in last year’s state title game, Summer Creek is on a mission early in 2024.
