Arion Carter couldn’t  love a program more than Tennessee and the Volunteers linebacker plans to reciprocate the love.

After playing eight games as a true freshman last season, Carter is off to a great start. As is Tennessee of course, 2-0 with two blowout victories and a No. 7 ranking in the AP Poll.

Carter was enamored by the Tennessee culture right away when he walked onto campus last fall.

“Just seeing the culture coming in as a freshman,” Carter said on Andy and Ari On3. “And then, not only that, it’s the support that you have. You’re supported by some (people) that you don’t even know. 102,000 screaming fans, that energy, stadium … Being from Tennessee, (you get) love everywhere when I come home or just walking around campus. It’s just everybody around supporting you.

“And it’s like, it’s big, like in a sense of a franchise … but the community feels so small, because everybody knows you, and you just feel like you’re so supported, and everybody has your back at the end of the day.”

This season, Carter has six total tackles, two solo tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and one pass deflection. As a freshman, he finished with 17 total tackles, eight solo tackles, one tackles for loss and one pass deflection.

As a member of the Class of 2023, Carter was a four-star recruit out of Smyrna (Tenn.) High, according to the On3 Industry Ranking , a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 2 overall prospect in the state, the No. 11 linebacker in the class and the No. 125 overall prospect in the class.

Carter and Tennessee are back in action Saturday night at 7:45 p.m. ET when Kent State comes to town. At this rate Tennessee looks like a 3-0 team going into SEC play when the Volunteers travel to take on Oklahoma .

Carter will surely be a key piece on defense to make it happen.
