As the 2024 District of Columbia high school football season enters its second week, the top teams in the area treated fans to some competitive action. However, despite those results, the District of Columbia On3 Massey Ratings Top 25 list as of September 11 showed no movement compared to last week’s rankings.
Six of the top ten teams that have played two games remain undefeated. Likewise, another four teams from the 11 th to 25 th spot still have unblemished records. Here’s how the ratings unfolded at the nation’s capital.

Previous: No. 1
After two games, Gonzaga is DC’s number-one defensive team after limiting Springfield to six points and blanking Fordham Prep. Gonzaga won against Ohio-based Springfield despite generating fewer yards and making only one third-down conversion. Conversely, they’ve humiliated them by scoring 55 points in those games. Massey Ratings predict Gonzaga will go 3-0 with another dominating performance against Loyola Blakefield.

The Cadets were strictly on business, dominating Lewis J. Bennett by 42 points. Running back Breyon Williams had 106 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while wide receiver Reece Williams torched the Tigers with 126 receiving yards and two touchdowns. That result also erased their disappointing 52-21 loss to Roman Catholic, a match that Massey Ratings predicted they would win. On September 14, St. John’s will try to complete a winning streak against fifth-ranked Archbishop Carroll.

Defense has been the Knights’ calling card for the first two weeks. They’ve surrendered six points to St. Mary’s and shut down the Charles Herbert Flowers offense. Defensive lineman Bryce Jenkins and safety Dallas Minor lead Friendship Collegiate’s charge in limiting Flowers to 84 yards. The Knights could dominate Coolidge during their September 13 game when they are in their peak form.

Dunbar’s potent offense generated 103 points in two games, ranking them third among District of Columbia high school football teams. The Crimson Tide scored 60 against Suitland, thanks to Brosnan Duke’s 424 passing yards and six touchdowns. Meanwhile, senior wideouts Tristan Waters and Mykhi Davis combined for 251 yards and three touchdowns. After that success, the Crimson Tide will face more challenging opponents in Landon School (September 13) and Friendship Collegiate (September 20).

The Lions bounced back from their 23-point loss to Dunbar by carving a three-point victory over Coolidge. Archbishop Carroll scored six unanswered points in the fourth quarter to snatch their first win this year. TK Davis led the way with 198 rushing yards and three touchdowns. However, the Lions’ success might be short-lived unless they can upset second-ranked St. John’s on September 14 and top-ranked Gonzaga on September 20.

The good news is that the Bulldogs are 2-0 after victories over St. Paul’s and Bishop O’Connell. However, giving up 55 points in two games is concerning. Nonetheless, Brett Paukstis threw four touchdowns in their 44-34 win over Bishop O’Connell. Will Martin had 110 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while Zahir Cobb caught ten balls for 174 yards and two touchdowns. St. Albans will face 15 th -ranked Jackson-Reed in their next match.

The Roughriders were on smooth sailing during their season-opener, defeating Bishop O’Connell by 18 points. Running backs Deyon Smith and Demarean Frazier combined for 158 yards and two touchdowns, while Jamal Gilmore had a touchdown catch. Up next on their schedule are some top District of Columbia high school football teams: 12 th -ranked Bell Multicultural (Sept. 13), Washington (Sept. 20), and 14 th -ranked Anacostia (Sept. 27).

After defeating the Anacostia Indians, Woodson dominated the Utopian Academy for the Arts 46-0. Against the Indians, running back Allan Alston paced Woodson with 13 carries for 157 yards and a touchdown. While they are now 2-0 for the season, they will face a formidable challenge against West Virginia’s top-ranked high school football team, Martinsburg, on September 13.

The Colts couldn’t seal the deal against Archbishop Carroll, resulting in a three-point loss. Their grueling strength of schedule has them in the crosshairs of top-ranked teams St. John’s (Sept. 14), Gonzaga (Sept. 20), and Maryland-based Bishop McNamara (October 5).

The Ramblers could have been higher on the list because of their 102 points in two games. However, they’ve defeated 17 th -ranked McKinley Technology by 40 points and unranked Largo by 50. Defeating Georgetown Preparatory on September 13 should help them earn more respect in the rankings.
