Kentucky quarterback Brock Vandagriff will see plenty of familiar faces on the opposing sideline this weekend when the Georgia Bulldogs make the visit to Lexington to take on the Wildcats. With Vandagriff spending the previous three seasons at Georgia before transferring to Kentucky during the offseason.

He may be wearing different threads, but the bonds Vandagriff made during his time in Athens continue to live on. Asked specifically about his relationship with Georgia quarterback Carson Beck ahead of Saturday’s game, sharing the same position room for three years and much more.

“Me and Carson, Cash [Jones] and Chaz [Chambliss] , we talk pretty frequently. Cash and Chaz were two of my best friends. Came in, same grade, stuff like that,” Vandagriff said. “Them and [Brock] Bowers , we’re all still in the same group chat. Still talk to Carson a lot and those are just dudes that you value friendships [with]. Good dudes off the field, good dudes on the field and stuff like that. It’s just outside the lines, carrying on those friendships probably for the rest of my life.”

Beck and Vandagriff both served as backup quarterbacks for the Bulldogs during the program’s back-to-back national championship wins in 2021 and 2022. And despite not being able to take the field for Georgia as much as he’d probably like, Vandagriff still found a way to be competitive outside of the white lines.

“It was like the Bs versus Cs, that was how we did everything so it was me and Brock versus Cash and Chaz in literally everything we did,” Vandagriff explained. “The final tally record I think the Bs had got the best of the Cs. But I mean it was corn hole, pool, ping pong, pickleball, we had fishing tournaments, just everything. And me and Bowers were out there to win.”

The stakes of Vandagriff’s friendly competitions with his teammates now rise heading into this weekend, as Georgia steps into their first SEC game of the 2024 college football season and the Wildcats look to bounce back from a disappointing 31-6 loss to South Carolina last weekend.

No. 1 ranked Georgia and Kentucky square off at Kroger Field this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET in an SEC matchup airing on ABC.
