Kentucky-Georgia: Preview, Injury Report, Point Spread, How To Watch, and More
By Drew Franklin,
Your University of Kentucky Wildcats (1-1, 0-1) really dropped the ball last week, suffering an inexplicable home loss to South Carolina. A massive letdown in a game with a lot on the line, the 31-6 loss sucked most of the excitement from Kentucky’s fan base in only the second week of the season.
Now, needing a bounce-back win in Week 3, the Wildcats host the worst possible opponent in the Georgia Bulldogs (2-0, 0-0), the No. 1 team in the country. Georgia has won 41 consecutive regular season games heading into tonight’s matchup with Kentucky, a team the Dawgs have beaten 14 straight times.
How To Watch/Listen
Kickoff : 7:30 p.m. ET
TV : ABC (Sean McDonough, Greg McElroy, Molly McGrath)
UPDATED at Saturday 6 p.m. ET: Brandon White, Keeshawn Silver, and Brock Vandagriff active; Maxwell Hairston and Gerald Mincey previously “questionable,” now “game time decision.” For Georgia, Mykel Williams downgraded from “doubtful” to “out”; Jordan Hall and Warren Brinson downgraded from “questionable” to “out”; and Xzavier McLeod still listed as “questionable.”
Consider joining the conversation on KSBoard if you want to interact with the KSR crew during the game. A live discussion can be found in the game thread, plus several other topics and conversations about the Wildcats and more.
Jamon Dumas-Johnson versus his old team : Like Vandagriff, UK’s new inside linebacker began his career at Georgia, although Dumas-Johnson was more than a backup in Athens. He was second on the team in tackles in the 2022 national championship season, earning All-American honors. Dumas-Johnson transferred to Kentucky for the 2024 season after an injury cost him his starting spot at Georgia last year. He intercepted a pass on his first snap as a Wildcat in Week 1.
A thin Kentucky backfield : Kentucky’s offense has only two available scholarship running backs. The Wildcats are without starter Chip Trayanum for a third straight game. Jason Patterson, the third option, will miss his first game with an injury suffered last week. Demie Sumo-Karngbaye and Jamarion Wilcox have to step up and stay healthy.
Kentucky needs a bounce-back: Earlier in the week, Mark Stoops said his team needed to improve in all areas. “We had to make improvements, bottom line,” Stoops said.
No College Gameday : ESPN had everything in order to broadcast College Gameday from Lexington today as long as Kentucky handled business at home last Saturday. Kentucky did not, so Gameday changed its plans on the fly, moving to South Carolina.
