After missing the first quarter of the season, Nic Anderson may be back in time for Oklahoma’s debut in conference play for a Top-15 matchup in Norman .

Jackson Arnold noted Anderson’s possible return against Tennessee this weekend while speaking with the media after practice on Monday. He said it’d be great to have him actually back after the third-year receiver had been hinting over and over that he’d be back soon.

    “It’s awesome,” said Arnold .

“I was talking to him about it today,” Arnold said. “You know, he’s been teasing me for the past couple of weeks. He’s like, ‘You know, I might play this Saturday?’ and then he hasn’t played for the past three weeks.”

A return by Anderson would be major for the Sooners, though, especially in this one against the Volunteers where there’ll be plenty of points . Arnold knows so too with what he adds to their offense.

“Having Nic back on Saturday will be awesome,” said Arnold. “Obviously, a key piece to our offense.”

“He’s a dynamic piece for us and hopefully we can facilitate the ball to him this weekend.”

Anderson had the injury coming into this season. He dealt with the issue in fall camp and over the first two games for Oklahoma. He returned to practice last week and had hoped to play this past weekend against Tulane but didn’t up doing so. Now, he could make his season debut for the Sooners.

In his first true action last fall as a redshirt freshman, Anderson caught 38 passes for 798 yards and 10 touchdowns. That tied him with Drake Stoops for the team lead and was a freshman record for them in receiving scores. He was also second in yardage behind only Stoops and third in total catches after him and Jalil Farooq .

With injuries and a new-look corps for OU, Deion Burks , a top transfer receiver , has been the go-to target for Arnold so far. Through three games, he has 22 receptions for 169 yards and three scores in the pass game. All three are team-highs and are double the stats of the next closest pass catcher.

Still, it sounds like Oklahoma could be getting an important weapon back this weekend in Anderson who would pair well as another option for Arnold.
